How to get good internet?
We've been told that some of our neighbors still pay a large amount to internet providers. We'd like to help our neighbors with some useful options. We can all get internet for a very small amount each month.
There are many nyc mesh sites on our block already and tests at 58 Van Buren shows we get ~40 Mbits/sec download/upload on wifi and ethernet is even better. We spoke to the nyc mesh technical person Matt and he said if there are 6 or 7 adjacent customers they can provide 10 faster speeds of 500-700Mbits/sec. We are streaming all day and never see any significant slowdowns. Plus there is almost never an outage (except during a zero visibility condition, which we see only for a few seconds during the worse storms.) We at 58 Van Buren were a customer of optimum and comparing service shows nyc mesh as better in all areas. Service, speed, reliability and cost. Plus nyc mesh supports all the local housing projects and is a nonprofit.
We'd like to help our neighbors save money and get better service.
If you have cable, land line phone, high price internet, etc. Consider moving away from those high priced low need low quality services to nyc mesh basic internet.
Land line numbers? Land line numbers can be ported to the internet and cost almost nothing when using google voice etc.
Cable? We did not even know that still exists, but the internet has more choices and at no extra cost.
Dumb TV? Dumb tvs can be made smart with dongles such as ChromeCast.
